Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

What are Energy Efficient Light Bulbs?

Energy efficient light bulbs are a way of saving you money, as well as contributing to the welfare of the environment. They were originally developed in the 1970’s when an oil crisis highlighted the needs for alternative sources of energy. That crisis has passed for the time being but, at a time when the global economy is in a slump and serious questions are being asked about the effects of global warming, energy efficient lighting has never been more relevant.

For those who want to know, the difference between energy efficient lighting and standard lighting is in the construction. Instead of using electricity to heat a thin wire, an energy efficient light bulb uses electricity to produce ultraviolet light. This causes the inner lining of the bulb to glow and light is produced.

Why Use Energy Efficient Light Bulbs?

Low energy light bulbs produce far less carbon dioxide than conventional ones. Carbon Dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases that we hear so much about in the press and it is reckoned that at least a quarter of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions come from domestic appliances, such as lighting. Using low energy light bulbs reduces your carbon footprint. If you were to tell all your friends about energy saving bulbs and they were to do the same, together we could make a serious dent in the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions.

Can I save Money with Energy Efficient Light Bulbs?

Using energy efficient light bulbs, you could cut the cost of your lighting bill by about eighty percent. Much of the electricity used in standard bulbs is wasted s heat. Energy saving bulbs use gas and phosphor to produce light; this requires about one fifth of the power used by standard ones. In addition, they have a much longer lifespan, saving you money on changing them. In short, why spend more money on replacing something that costs you more to run?

Why Use Energy Saving Light Bulbs?

Firstly, they will save you money and, in the current economic situation, that is important to all of us.

Secondly, they are kinder to the environment. The main waste product from traditional bulbs is carbon dioxide, which is the biggest contributing factor to global warming. Almost 25% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from domestic household products.

By using energy saving bulbs, you can honestly say that you are ‘doing your bit’ for the environment, as the carbon dioxide emitted from these bulbs is far less. Tell your friends to visit ecofriendlylightbulbs.co.uk and they’ll be able to enjoy lighting that doesn’t cost the Earth.
